Got a roof leak, but don’t know where it’s coming from? It’s time to play detective.

  1. From the Ground: Start by looking at the roof uphill from the stains. Look for any roof penetrations.
  2. From the Attic:  Go in the attic with a flashlight and look for evidence of water stains, black marks, or mold.
  3. From the Rooftop: If you still can’t find the source, get a helper and go on the roof with a garden hose.  Soak the area slowly just above where the leak appears in the house.  Let the hose run for several minutes before moving on to another area.  Make sure your helper tells you when a drip become visible.  This process can take over an hour.  Be patient and don’t move the hose too soon.

After you pinpoint the location on the exterior of the roof, apply roofing cement or new shingles as needed. If you need help finding or fixing a roof leak, call the experts at J Adams Roofing! Call us today for your FREE roofing consultation!
